Amavi injured on international duty: Aston Villa are awaiting news on Jordan Amavi after the left-back was injured playing for France U21s on Thursday. The summer signing from Nice landed awkwardly during a 1-0 win over Northern Ireland. Amavi was clearly in distress as he clutched his right knee and had to be helped away by two members of the France staff.

Kompany out of Belgium squad: Vincent Kompany has withdrawn from the Belgium squad for their friendlies against Italy and Spain due to a minor calf injury. The Manchester City skipper had not trained all week with his team-mates, and Belgium coach Marc Wilmots confirmed that the defender has left the squad. It is another setback for Kompany, who has already been sidelined with two calf problems this season. Belgium confirmed he has been replaced by Anderlecht midfielder Steven Defour.

Gladkiy out of play-off: Ukraine will be without striker Olexandr Gladkiy for both legs of their EURO 2016 qualification play-off against Slovenia. Gladkiy picked up an ankle injury playing for his club Shakhtar Donetsk in a 4-0 Champions League win over Malmo earlier this month. Ukraine have yet to overcome Slovenia in four games, two draws and two defeats, which includes losing out to the Slovenes in the play-offs for EURO 2000.

Spain

Martinez suffers ankle sprain: Jackson Martinez sustained a sprained left ankle during Colombia's 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw against Chile on Thursday. The Atletico Madrid striker was substituted during the closing stages of the match in Santiago and an initial scan revealed a sprain. The 29-year-old is set to undergo a second scan to determine the full extent of his injury. Martinez has three goals in 15 appearances for Atletico following his close-season move from Porto.
